TradingView Alternatives for Backtesting and Automation (2026): 9 Options Compared
The best TradingView alternatives for backtesting and automated trading: TrendSpider, MetaTrader 5, cTrader, NinjaTrader, QuantConnect, Tessera and more, compared on code, validation and execution.
By Tessera Trades · Updated · 5 min read

The best TradingView alternative for backtesting depends on what TradingView isn't doing for you. As of November 2026: if you want no-code testing and bots for US stocks, look at TrendSpider; for forex and CFD Expert Advisors, MetaTrader 5; for C# or Python bots on a forex broker, cTrader; for futures with walk-forward and Monte Carlo, NinjaTrader; for coded research across many asset classes, QuantConnect; and if you want to describe a strategy in plain English, validate it properly and run it as a bot on cTrader or Liquid Brokers, Tessera's Strategy Lab and Launchpad.
TradingView is excellent for charts, and its Strategy Tester is quick. Traders usually look elsewhere for three reasons: Pine Script is code, robustness testing (an unseen period, walk-forward, Monte Carlo) is limited, and running a strategy live means wiring alerts to a broker or a third-party bot. This guide compares the alternatives on those three points.
Features and prices were checked on each vendor's pages on 6 November 2026; where a page would not load, we say so.
Backtests are not future results, and leveraged trading carries a high risk of loss.

Tessera: best for no-code building, validation and a bot on cTrader or Liquid Brokers
Tessera is our product. In Strategy Lab you describe a strategy to TES, the AI strategy coach, or build it from setups, filters, sessions and exits, and backtest it on 1-minute to daily candles across 50 markets with up to 20 years of data. Every backtest holds back an unseen period, and you can add Monte Carlo, price noise, costs, other markets and a prop-firm account test. You don't have to leave TradingView behind: a strategy that holds up exports as Pine Script v6 with a self-check that compares trades, or runs as a bot through Launchpad, with you approving each trade or letting it trade inside your limits.
Where it is the wrong choice: options, US stock brokerage trading, or bots on brokers other than cTrader and Liquid Brokers.
TrendSpider: best for US stock traders who want charts, testing and bots together
TrendSpider is the closest like-for-like replacement for TradingView's charts, with a no-code Strategy Tester, Sidekick AI that builds strategies from plain English and bots through SignalStack. Watch for: no free tier, renewal prices above the first-year rate and 1-minute data only on the top tier.
MetaTrader 5: best for forex and CFD Expert Advisors
MT5's Strategy Tester is mature: every-tick testing, genetic optimisation, a forward-test split and cloud optimisation. Since September 2026 an AI Assistant can read tester and optimisation results. Watch for: strategies are MQL5 code, and the platform is Windows-first.
cTrader Algo: best for C# or Python bots on a forex broker
cTrader runs cBots written in C# or Python on any cTrader broker, and Spotware's cTrader CLI (August 2026) lets AI agents test, optimise and run them. Watch for: it still means code. If you want a cTrader bot without writing it, see our guide to building a cTrader bot without coding.
NinjaTrader: best for futures with strong validation
NinjaTrader's Strategy Builder is point and click, and its Strategy Analyzer offers walk-forward and Monte Carlo. Watch for: futures only, Windows desktop.
QuantConnect: best for quants who code
QuantConnect gives you a full research environment across equities, options, futures, forex and crypto, with live trading at many brokers. Watch for: it is a coding platform, not a no-code one.
TradeStation, StrategyQuant X and LuxAlgo
TradeStation suits US stock and futures traders comfortable with EasyLanguage. StrategyQuant X generates strategies for you and has some of the strongest robustness testing available, at a desktop-software price. LuxAlgo's Vela platform has an AI agent that writes and backtests Pine Script, with Monte Carlo and a prop challenge replay, but does not execute trades.
Keeping TradingView and adding what it lacks
Plenty of traders keep TradingView for charts and add a tool for the missing piece. If you already have a Pine strategy, you can analyse a TradingView backtest by market condition or automate a Pine Script strategy without leaving it behind.
