Best No-Code Backtesting Software (2026): 8 Tools Compared on Data, Validation and Price
The best no-code backtesting software compared: TradingView, TrendSpider, NinjaTrader, StrategyQuant X, Backtrex, Option Alpha, Tessera and more, on data, validation and price.

The best no-code backtesting software depends on what you trade and how far you want to take a strategy. As of November 2026, TrendSpider suits US stock traders who want charts, a no-code tester and bots in one place, NinjaTrader's Strategy Builder suits futures traders, StrategyQuant X suits traders who want to mine thousands of strategies on the desktop, and Tessera's Strategy Lab suits traders who want to describe a strategy in plain English, backtest it on 1-minute to daily candles, check it on unseen data and Monte Carlo, and then run it as a bot. TradingView remains the default for charting, but its strategies are written in Pine Script, which is code.
"No-code" covers very different products. Some let you click rules together, some infer rules from trades you mark on a chart, some generate strategies for you, and some now take a plain-English description. This guide compares eight tools on the things that decide whether a no-code backtest is worth trusting: the data behind it, how it checks for overfitting, whether you can run the result live, and what it costs.
Prices and features below were checked against each vendor's own pages on 6 November 2026. Where a vendor's page would not load, we say so. Prices change often, so confirm on the vendor's site before you pay.
Nothing here is a promise of profit. Backtests are not future results, and leveraged trading carries a high risk of loss.
What makes a no-code backtester good
- You can express the strategy you actually trade. Sessions, opening ranges, multi-timeframe entries and filters, not only two moving averages crossing.
- The data is good enough for the timeframe. A 1-minute entry needs 1-minute data, and enough history to cover different market regimes.
- It checks whether the result is real. An unseen (out-of-sample) period, Monte Carlo, costs and slippage, and other markets. Without these, a no-code tool just makes it faster to overfit a backtest.
- You can see the rules it tested. If the tool built or inferred the strategy for you, it should read the rules back so you know exactly what ran.
- There is a path to live. A bot, an export to a platform you use, or at least code you can take elsewhere.
- Price per strategy. One-off licences, monthly plans and metered AI add-ons work out very differently once you test more than a handful of ideas.

Tessera Strategy Lab: best for building, validating and running a strategy in one place
Strategy Lab is where we sit, so read this section with that in mind. You can build a strategy three ways: describe it to TES, the AI strategy coach (for example "15-minute opening range at the New York open, enter on a 1-minute close outside the range"), assemble it in the recipe composer from setups, confluences, sessions, entries and exits, or write custom rules with 21 indicators. Strategy Lab reads the recipe back to you in plain English before it runs.
Every backtest holds back the last 30% of the data as an unseen period, and you can add Monte Carlo, price noise, trading costs, other markets and a prop-firm account test on the same run. A strategy that holds up can be exported to TradingView as Pine Script v6 or run as a bot with Launchpad.
Where it is the wrong choice: options strategies, US stock trading through a brokerage account, or running bots on a broker other than cTrader or Liquid Brokers. It is also a younger product than most on this list. The Free plan includes 5 backtests a week; the smallest candle and length of history depend on the plan.
TrendSpider: best all-in-one for US stock traders
TrendSpider combines charting, a no-code Strategy Tester and bots that trade through SignalStack at more than 30 brokers. Sidekick AI can now build and refine a strategy from a plain-English goal, and ML Quant Lab (renamed from AI Strategy Lab in July 2026) trains machine-learning models with point and click. Validation covers variance testing, multi-symbol and forward testing, with costs and slippage; we found no walk-forward or Monte Carlo on its pages.
Watch for: there is no free tier, the first-year price ($32.94 a month on Standard) rises on renewal, lower tiers are limited on intraday history, and 1-minute data is on the top tier. The tester does not cover options or indices.
NinjaTrader Strategy Builder: best for futures traders
NinjaTrader's Strategy Builder is a point-and-click editor that generates NinjaScript (C#) underneath, so you can start without code and open the code later. Its Strategy Analyzer has some of the strongest validation on this list: walk-forward optimisation, Monte Carlo and multi-objective optimisation. Strategies run live through NinjaTrader's own futures brokerage.
Watch for: it is a Windows desktop platform focused on futures, and more complex rules soon push you into C#.
StrategyQuant X and Build Alpha: best for strategy mining
Both are desktop programs that generate strategies for you, searching thousands of rule combinations with genetic programming, then filtering them with robustness tests. StrategyQuant X offers Monte Carlo and a walk-forward matrix on its Pro and Ultimate editions and exports code for MetaTrader and other platforms. Build Alpha is known for its noise test, walk-forward and Monte Carlo.
Watch for: price and learning curve. StrategyQuant X Starter costs $1,290 one-off (or 12 payments of $129) and does not include the robustness tests. We could not reach Build Alpha's own site to confirm its current price. Mining thousands of strategies also raises the risk of finding one that fits the past by chance, so the robustness tests are not optional.
Backtrex: best for testing a discretionary setup cheaply
Backtrex takes a different route: you mark a few trades on a chart and it infers the rules behind them, or you paste Pine Script or a plain-English description. Each rule is tagged as exact or inferred, which is a good habit. It covers 17 assets on M1 to D1 with up to 10 years of data and exports Pine Script v5.
Watch for: a small market list, no walk-forward or Monte Carlo that we could find, and no live execution. Pricing is a one-off lifetime licence at the current stage, from $86.25.
Option Alpha: best for options bots
If you trade options on US indices and ETFs, Option Alpha is built for it: no-code bots and a backtester, with automation through TradeStation, Tradier and tastytrade. It can be free with a qualifying broker account.
Watch for: options only, on a short list of symbols, and it has no built-in AI builder.
TradingView: best for charting, not truly no-code
Most traders already use TradingView, and its Strategy Tester is fast and familiar. Strategies are written in Pine Script, though, which is code. TradingView's AI Copilot (a paid add-on on paid plans, with a monthly usage cap) can now write Pine strategies for you, which narrows the gap. Robustness testing is limited: we found no built-in walk-forward or Monte Carlo.
If you use AI to write Pine, test the result before you trust it. Our guide to testing a strategy ChatGPT or Claude wrote covers the checks.
How to choose
- You trade US stocks and want everything in one subscription: TrendSpider.
- You trade futures and want strong validation: NinjaTrader.
- You want the computer to search for strategies: StrategyQuant X or Build Alpha, and budget for the robustness editions.
- You trade options: Option Alpha.
- You trade forex, metals, indices or crypto and want to describe, test and run your own idea: Tessera Strategy Lab.
- You live in TradingView and are happy to read code: TradingView with Pine Script, plus a separate validation step.
Whichever you pick, run the same checks before you trust a result: enough trades, an unseen period, realistic costs and a stress test. Our step-by-step guide to building an algo strategy walks through the whole process.
